This book was a fun read, but also had some depth in it. What I like about Sarah Dessen is that even though she writes YA contemporary romance novels, she still puts some depth in her books, so it's not just about the love.
I found Maclean's situation really messed up, and I understood why she changed personalities like she did every time she moved. I also kind of agreed with he way she kept her mom at a distance, I would be pissed too. Dave was a sweetheart, and I loved him. He was so thoughtful and cute, and I really liked how they're friendship grew into something more. It almost went a little too slow for me at times, and I would have actually liked to see more of their relationship, but that is really my only complaint about this book. Sarah Dessen is awesome, ands I will continue to read her books.
I am so glad to be finished with this book, it took me forever to read! First off, part of the reason why I was so discouraged to read this, and why it took me so long was because the lettering in the book was soooo tiny! It was horrible, I hate when books have small lettering, especially since this is a newer edition of the book.
The story was just meh all the way through. I didn't connect with any of the characters, and I didn't like any of the characters really except for Joe and Herbert. I absolutely despised Pip as a main character, he is a brat, selfish, and completely condescending. He annoyed me throughout the entire book.
I felt that the story was really boring, with not much happening until about 100 pages in. It picked up a bit towards the middle which was good, but once certain things were revealed and everything started to unravel it just became downright ridiculous! It's almost like the author just decided to have every character be connected in some crazy ridiculous way, which became really confusing at times.
This was my first Dickens novel, but I don't think I'm going to read another. I think I'll just stick to other classics.
